Animal Farm by George Orwell

Animal Farm was a quick and easy read which has stood the test of time. George Orwell did a great job in bringing social issues to light in a creative manner for all readers to understand.
This was not the book I thought it was. I'll be honest, I didn't have any expectations because I hadn't actually read the plot or the summary, I just knew it was important if it's considered a classic. But now knowing its about socialism. I can see why its monumental.

The animals of Manor Farm, tired of being ruled by two-legged beings, decide to revolt and overthrow them to take ownership of their farm. They begin to live harmoniously however as time goes on, a divide ensues and leaders emerge through greed and politics.

This was a really straight forward read given the topics and themes that it touches on. I interpreted the book as being more focussed on power struggles and power division than communism and the Russian revolution (probably because I haven't lived through those circumstances). However, the premise of this book was great and still relevant providing great commentary to political landscapes and situations that we experience now still in 2022.

I think this would be a great book to read as a kid to just process it as a book about animals and a farm rather than as communism and politics. Reading it as an adult you can't help but relate it to the latter.

Overall, I would totally recommend Animal Farm for anyone wanting to understand the political landscape of the time when George Orwell wrote it, and it's relevance to the time we live in now.
